# Recruitment and HR in Ottawa

In Ottawa, private employers compete with the federal government for the same people. We help you show candidates what you offer that a government job does not.

## The Ottawa hiring market

- **Technology**: Kanata North is one of the largest technology parks in Canada, with telecom, software and hardware companies.
- **Government and suppliers**: Federal departments and the consultancies, contractors and defence firms that work with them.
- **Professional services**: Law, accounting and consulting firms serving government and business clients.
- **Bilingual roles**: Many positions need English and French. We flag the level of French a role needs at intake.

## Rules that matter for Ottawa employers

- Ontario: from January 1, 2026, employers with 25 or more employees must include the expected pay or pay range in publicly advertised job postings, say whether the posting is for an existing vacancy, disclose AI use in screening, and not ask for Canadian work experience. ([source](https://www.ontario.ca/document/your-guide-employment-standards-act-0/job-postings))
- Ontario: most private-sector employers follow the Employment Standards Act, 2000, which sets minimum notice, overtime, vacation and leave rules. ([source](https://www.ontario.ca/document/your-guide-employment-standards-act-0))
- Federally regulated employers, such as banks, airlines, telecoms and interprovincial transport, follow the Canada Labour Code instead of provincial employment standards. ([source](https://www.canada.ca/en/services/jobs/workplace/federal-labour-standards.html))

## Hiring well in Ottawa

Government jobs offer pensions and stability. Private employers win candidates with faster hiring, clear growth and flexible work. A short process matters more here than in most cities.

## Common questions

**Do you recruit bilingual candidates?**

Yes. Tell us the level of French needed for the role and we screen for it.

**Do you cover Gatineau?**

We recruit candidates who live in Gatineau for Ottawa roles. Quebec-based employers follow Quebec rules and French-language requirements; we do not cover Quebec employers yet.
